Review: Apple’s New MacBook
By Scott Kelby
There are things I absolutely love about my new 15″ Apple MacBook Pro, but at least 40 to 50 times a day, I want to have a friend fling it high into the air so I can use it for skeet shooting practice.
Now, before I dig into this review too far, part of the problem seems to be an Apple thing, but part of the problem may be something Adobe can fix in Photoshop CS4, because it’s there where the problem is most prevalent, and it’s there where I find myself stringing together somewhat colorful phrases I would not normally assemble... The new dekPod has arrived. Watch the EXCLUSIVE VIDEO right here, right now. LIMITED TIME ONLY! OK, it’s not really exclusive or limited, but it sure sounds cool, not to mention I have fine print to read. :-)

I am on my way to Las Vegas for the Photoshop World Expo 2008 and of course a stop at the World’s Largest Gift Shop. You can check out my photos from the event on Flickr. Just click here.
Here is a copy the letter I sent to Deke McClelland, author, creator of dekePod, and speaker at Photoshop World 2008 in Las Vegas.
Hi Deke,
It looks like you’re going to be having a good time in Vegas. I plan to be there with my wife for a few days, checking out the Photoshop World Expo and then it’s vacation time. I need some rest after my first epic feature video from the Kelby Photo Walk in Hollywood. You know, you’re in the business, dealing with all those production people, stars, and editing.

After the critical acclaim I’m thinking of moving on with my next planned feature, “Finding dekePod in Vegas.” It has a great theatrical ring. And, when you mix in the springboard effect of mixing the mega hit dekePod name it’s got to be a sure winner. How about some product placement? They use it in all the major movies. There’s got to be a fortune in it for us.
Actually the movie camera is broken, the call of a raft in the pool and an adult beverage is way too strong and sounds like a lot more fun.
Hope to see you at the blackjack table,
RL
The new dekePod has arrived. This one is about Adobe Illustrator, again. I want more Photoshop! Check it out below. Just click on the little play triangle.

Tim at the MacReviewCast put his speed test on his website so I did a speed test to check out how fast my cable is. Here is my result. I have no idea what this means. Is this fast or slow? Would someone send a comment and explain it to me. I put links to different speed tests if you want to try it out with your cable or DSL.

Two days and counting to the Worldwide Photo Walk. I will be spending Saturday evening shooting photographs in Hollywood. I will set up a Flickr page with the results. I’m looking forward to it.

Things I Didn't Know
August 06, 2008 09:52 AM
OK, there’s way too many things I don’t know to list here, so I’ll just mention a few things I’ve recently learned via the internet.
1. There is a Photoshop Hall of Fame. Who knew? “The Photoshop Hall of Fame was
founded in 2001 to honor those individuals whose contributions to the art, business, and development of Adobe Photoshop have enduring value,” according to NAPP.
2. I didn’t know what DNG is? How embarrassing. I’m a famous photography columnist. OK, I’m not a famous photography colum
nist. “It (DNG) stands for Digital Negative. “It’s specification was announced on September 27, 2004. The same day, Adobe introduced Digital Negative to the market with its free Adobe DNG Converter program. According to Adobe, Digital Negative was a response to demand for a unifying camera raw file format. Digital Negative is based on the TIFF/EP format, and mandates use of metadata. All Adobe photo manipulation software (such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom) released since the announcement support DNG,” according to Wikipedia.
3. The College Humor website has some very funny videos include one on Fonts at www.collegehumor.com. This info from deke.com. Check it out below.

.
4. I can use brightness and contrast controls in Photoshop and still be cool. Only one problem, I need to use lab color. Deke McClelland says it’s easy. Watch the video and decide for yourself.More Deke, More Kelby
July 25, 2008 10:07 AM
The new dekePod video podcast by photographer and graphic artist, Deke McClelland is out. Just under six minutes of pure Deke. His videos always give me something to look forward to. This time it’s Deke’s approach to lab color. Sounds boring, right? Only Deke can give lab color an interesting spin. OK, now that we’re talking about how lab color is boring... I don’t use it but, if it’s good enoungh for Deke, it must time for me to give it a try..
Deke pitches his Photoshop book and his Lynda.com tutorials after the video. The lab color tutorial looks like it would be nice. I ne
ed more knowledge!
Scott Kelby’s taking pre-orders on his new book, The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers. This one could be tough to beat. I am still on the fence about Adobe’s Lightroom and Apple’s Aperature it’s tough to know which one to go with. I still don’t shoot RAW images very much. The book might just be the push toward Lightroom for me. It would fit perfect next to my dog-eared Photoshop CS2 Book by Kelby. But then, it all starts to add up, because I would need to upgrade to a Canon G9 point-and-shoot which will give me RAW images. It a viciuous circle of spending. It never ends. Great and cool technology is never cheap.
